The Beaches

This list could go on for pages and pages. To write about the numerous, picturesque, quite or busy, sandy or pebbly beaches of the island is a pleasure. To limit oneself to mentioning just a few is a challenge we will take up. Off we go…

Kapsali

For all those who, alone or in the company of friends, want to go for a swim, enjoy a good meal, or rest while drinking a cup of coffee or tasting some traditional pastries, treat yourself to a full day in Kapsali. In Kapsali you can practice sea sports, rent a pedal boat to visit Sparagario (a small beach not far from Kapsali) and if you want to go further… just charter a boat that will take you to Chytra, the small islet off Kaspali. The beach is awarded with the Blue Flag.

Diakofti

As if it came out of a fairy tale featuring pirates and heroes, the beach seems to be made in heaven. White sand and shallow waters make it ideal for children of all ages. Visitors will find many tavernas with fresh fish and traditional Greek dishes. The shipwreck “Navagio”, a popular tourist attraction, is not far from here either.

Palaiopoli

Stretch on the endless sandy beach and let the scent of thyme intoxicate you! Situated after the village of Skandeia and right before Avlémonas, this beach is popular with those who practice water ski, wind surfing, and other sea sports.

Kaladi

A beach that should not to be missed when visiting Kythera: with crystal clear turquoise waters and greyish pebbles, the beach of Kaladi is one of the most beautiful ones. It is located in the eastern part of the island, close to Palaiópolis. A dirt road and 120 steps will take you down to it. Don’t expect to find a beach bar so be well-prepared for the event of hunger or thirst. The beach consists of three different parts, with a small spectacular cave being the natural border between the second and the third.

Agia Pelagia

Grey sand and crystal clear waters play host to several sports tournaments, such as beach volley. Don’t worry if you get hungry or thirsty: a multitude of tavernas and cafes will give you plenty of choice.

Lykodimou

This vast, peaceful and romantic beach lies on the west of the island, thus offering a wonderful spot for enjoying the sunset. As a matter of fact, many of those who do enjoy it stay enchanted on the beach overnight and wake up to the sweetness of the early Aegean daylight. Follow the signs from Logothetianika village to get to the beach.

Melidoni

Clear waters and sand with small pebbles, in combination with a spectacular view overlooking Chytra. Visitors will find a canteen in which beach parties are organized day and night. This small creek is located in the south-western part of the island and it is accessible by car through the dirt road for Drymona. You can access the beach by boat too, starting from the port of Kapsali.

Chalkos

With pebbles and fine turquoise waters, this popular beach lies a few kilometers away from Kálamos. It is well organised, with canteens and a spacious car park.

Fyri Ammos

There are two beaches with this name on the island. If you must choose only one to visit, we would suggest the one located just outside the village of Kalamos. Awarded for its natural beauty and crystal clear waters, the beach is a popular attraction. Its being well organised contributes to that. For those able to spare more time on the island, the second Fyri Ammos beach is know for its red sand and pebbles and lies almost 1km from the village of Agia Pelagia.

Avlemonas

The rocky formations are the winning card here. Picturesque and beautiful, the tiny cove of the village by the same name attracts families as it is hardly ever beaten by the waves. Tavernas, cafes and the village’s infrastructure are at hand.

Kakia Lagada

Another Blue Flag award winner, this very well organised beach is also known for the events taking place there i.e. a beach volley tournament. This is the place for relaxed swimming with a view towards the coast of the Peloponnese.

Fournoi

Clear waters and greyish pebbles form an idyllic landscape that offers peace and relaxation. Indulge in the deep blue of the sea and the beautiful music coming from the nearby canteen (jazz, soul etc.) and let your mind travel along.
